Office of the Comptroller of the Currency Provides Consumer Information at National Consumer Protection Week Event on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON—The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) promoted awareness of consumer protection resources during today's National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) event on Capitol Hill.

"National Consumer Protection Week highlights a variety of resources consumers can use to help them make informed financial decisions. The OCC is pleased to join with other federal agencies and organizations to provide the information consumers need to protect themselves from unfair, fraudulent and deceptive practices," said Comptroller of the Currency Thomas J. Curry.

The OCC joined the Federal Trade Commission and other federal agencies on Capitol Hill to distribute educational materials about a variety of consumer protection and financial services issues. The OCC promoted its HelpWithMyBank.gov website that provides answers to common questions about banking in English and Spanish. Attendees sought information on a variety of topics including avoiding ‘card skimming' at ATMs, mortgage modification and foreclosure rescue scams, alternatives to refund anticipation loans, and reverse mortgages.

The OCC's materials, in English and Spanish, and information from all the event's participants are available at the NCPW Website http://www.ncpw.gov.
